Safe Boating is No Accident
Sunday, 6pm at the Hi-Dive
How long has your band been together?
We've been around in various incarnations for about 4 years,
we started as an avant-garde performance art folk band with a clarinet and
stand-up bass, but we sort of got bored with that and picked up electric
instruments about a year ago.
What was your band's first live show/ performance and what
was memorable about it?
At rhinoceropolis with Yuzo nieto and the hand that rocks
the dreidel. We played rhino in a band with stand-up bass and a lead clarinet.

compilation with my allowance money when I was 8.

LP- slave ambient by the war on drugs
NM- nothing is wrong by Dawes
Do you have any advice for new bands?
Don't print 1,000 copies of your first album. It's terrible.

three albums would you recommend to our customers?

now.
What was your band's first live show/ performance and what
was memorable about it?
our first show was at larimer lounge with voices underwater
and pena. as far as memorableness
goes...the show may be forgotten but i feel we'll never forget how fucking
scared we all were. i had to get a work
permit to play and the goddamn larimer lounge didn't even check it...wait a
minute...if i had to get a work permit, i must have been twenty. therefore i guess we've been playing
together for like seven years now! what
the fuck?!?!? please omit my first response to the first question. my bad.
What was the first album you purchased?
personally, my first album i think was either Weird Al's Bad

Hair Day!
What album was your most recent purchase?
as far as the last album i've purchased...i'll admit, i pay
for spotify. that's right. i'm that asshole destroying the purchase of
actual music. i'm killing the living
i'm trying to make my living. i do plan
to purchase the Menahan Street Bands Make the Road By Walking if i
find it on vinyl. sorry to be a dick.

Bare Bones
Where and when are you playing at the UMS?
Saturday, July 21st @ 4pm. South Broadway Christian Church
How long has your band been together?
Since November of 2012. So, roughly a year and a half.
What was your band's first live show/ performance and what
was memorable about it?
December 10, 2012 at the Hi-Dive with Horse Feathers. It was
memorable because there was such a sense of excitement and lack of any
expectations. I had some songs and Frieda and I had been putting some ideas
down. We approached Ben at the Hi-Dive about playing the show. He said yes and
I had then asked him to play drums. Everything came together very organically
and the show and performance just felt like it was meant to be. I felt we
played well and people seemed to enjoy it. It was something just a little
different than anything else at that particular moment.
What was the first album you purchased?
I honestly don’t remember. I just kind of always grew up
around music. Pet Sounds and Abbey Road were always on and I remember growing
up on the oldies radio station. A lot of those pop elements seeped into my
subconscious.
What album was your most recent purchase?
The Horrible Crows - Elsie and Glen Hansard Rhythm &
Repose
Do you have any advice for new bands?
If you love it, keep at it. Quit when it becomes work.
Besides your own band- who do you want to see at the UMS?
Land Lines
Best past UMS experience?
Just hanging out. Seeing friends play and jumping from one
show to the next.
Do you have any tips for festival goers?
Stay cool.

Besides your own band- who do you want to see at the UMS?
I've been waiting to get Shabazz Palaces to Denver for a

well. Locally I'm excited for Go Star, Rubedo, FaceMan, Panal, Hindershot,
Achille Lauro, 3Two, Ian Cooke, Land Lines, Men in Burka, Lee Avenue, The Knew,
and there are probably a bunch more that i'm missing

Last year when my Strange Famous pals B.Dolan and Sage

killer sets!
