Hot Apostles

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
Blue Ice 22 Broadway, Sunday July 21 @ 5pm

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.
 
Expect a high energy show from a 5 piece rock n roll band fronted by a rock goddess that’s ready to tempt you to the other side with her pipes of steel, backed by ripping guitar and piano solos and a solid backbone.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
Tay:  AC/DC and the Stand By Me soundtrack

Eryn: Iron Butterfly, Blondie, Dead Milkmen

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
Tay: Hot Apostles debut album
Eryn: Volbeat, Foxygen

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Tay: Get to it, nobody else is gonna do it for you
Eryn: Practice

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
Hollyfelds, but we wanna see as many bands as possible

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Broadway’s Wildest Weekend

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Actually playing the show

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Tay:  Meet every band
Eryn: Be on time and communicate with your sound engineer and stage manager

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
Tay:  Food truck, all of them
Eryn: Thai Monkey Club

What is your favorite shop on South Broadway?
Tay:  Caboose Hobbys
Eryn: Mutiny Information Cafe and True Love


Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
Railbenders or Hollyfelds

You're working the counter at Twist & Shout, and a customer is interested in expanding his music collection. What three albums would you recommend?
JJ Grey & Mofro Blackwater, Taj Mahal self-titled and Boston self-titled

Is there anything we forgot to ask you about the UMS that you think people need to know?

We will be selling our debut album on the street, pick one up.

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
Gary Lee's, Friday at 11pm.


In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.



Banjo, mandolin, guitar, crazy 3-part harmonies, multiple percussionists, poly-rhythms, synth drones and samples.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
Arrested Development and Jimi Hendrix

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
Natalie Tate

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Don't get caught up in 'being a band'. We're all just crazy people. Be real and love each other!

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
7 Hats, Raven and the Writing Desk, Ian Cooke, Anthony Ruptak, Ark Life, Natalie Tate, Atlas Sound.

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
bubbly frothing sugarbomb (one word)

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Drinking whiskey in my van with strangers.

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Go see everything.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
spicy basil, senor burritos.

What is your favorite shop on South Broadway? 
Ironwood.

Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
At this particular moment, Widow's Bane.

You're working the counter at Twist & Shout, and a customer is interested in expanding his music collection.  What three albums would you recommend?
'His', not 'hers'? chauvinist! James Blake James Blake. The Books Lemon of Pink. Martin Hayes Live in Seattle.

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
We are playing 7/21 at 5.

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.
Strings with Scandinavian accents melded into an Americana sound.


What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
Väsen.

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
Kal Cahoone's newest release.

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Enjoy yourselves.

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
The Centennial. Chimney Choir. Andy Palmer.

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Fun, Crowded, Sonic.

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Playing at that Church.

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
No Tips.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
Sputnik's sweet potato fries.

Flashbulb Fires

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
Flashbulb Fires is playing Illegal Pete's Broadway on Sunday, July 21st at midnight.

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.
We are an indie haze-pop band who uses trashcan lids, 2x4s, an omnichord, a melodica, and good looks to make music.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
Beach Boys.

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
The National - Trouble Will Find Me

Do you have any advice for new bands?
When playing the UMS, try to get a better slot than Sunday night at midnight.

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
We generally don't plan our UMS schedule out too far in advance.  The beauty of UMS is walking around South Broadway and randomly stopping into various venues to see what you see.  UMS is full of surprises.

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Drunk, hungover, drunk.

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Literally eating buckets of popcorn at the Mayan Theater at 12:30am waiting for Nathan and Stephen to perform.

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Don't be afraid to check out bands you've never heard of before.  The whole point is to discover new favorites and the Denver scene has a lot to offer.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
Famous Pizza.  It's a UMS tradition.

What is your favorite shop on South Broadway? 
Pleasures.  What?!  Don't judge us.

Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
Our moms taught us never to play favorites.

You're working the counter at Twist & Shout, and a customer is interested in expanding his music collection.  What three albums would you recommend?
Wait...?  Is this a job interview?

Is there anything we forgot to ask you about the UMS that you think people need to know?
Nope.  You guys are very thorough.



Hollow Talk

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
We play the Hi-Dive, Friday at 8:00.

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.


They will leave our performance with a decrease in Vitamins B12 and D.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
I bought AC/DC’s For Those About to Rock at Karma records in Louisville, Kentucky.

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
For Those About to Rock

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Get a banking job.

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
I plan to see as much local music as I possibly can so that I can increase my knowledge of bands I’ve yet to see.

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Sweet Candy Corn

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Hi-Dive Stage in 2008 with Monofog, Bad Weather California, d.biddle, and Houses.

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Drink water, pace yourself, eat ice crème. Buy merch…Lots of merch.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
I pretty much eat at Fat Sully’s whenever possible.

What is your favorite shop on South Broadway? 
Fancy Tiger. Matthew is a good fella.

Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
Danghead

Cheap Trick, Die Kreuzen, The Rachels
