Chella Negro & The Charm
Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
Saturday, July 20th, 10pm at Gary Lee's Motor Pub & Grub

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.
The steady rhythm and moan of the train, the whiskey-soaked sound of a pedal steel guitar, and a girl just trying to find Jesus in the Hank Williams Songbook.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?
Michael Jackson's Thriller. I'm a thousand years old

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
It's a tie between Jim James. The Replacements, Foals, and Justin Timberlake

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Don't act like you're David Bowie unless you ARE David Bowie

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
I haven't yet but I'm really looking forward to seeing Wisconsin band, Phox, the adorable In The Whale, and my not-so-secret crush You Me & Apollo

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
boffo thrill ride

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
shaking it hard with all my girlfriends in the front row of A Tom Collins last year.

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Alternate your alcohol beverages with water, make a friend that lives close by who won't mind you taking Disco Naps periodically.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
The Illegal Pete's!

What is your favorite shop on South Broadway? 
hmm...just one?? buffalo exchange mostly because they keep me in cute dresses
   
Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
Young Coyotes (RIP)

Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson's Midnight Band: The First Minute of a New Day

Is there anything we forgot to ask you about the UMS that you think people need to know?
This is my 5-year anniversary at the UMS and I couldn't be happier/prouder to be amongst its ranks. People need to recognize this festival as the best thing Denver has going for itself...I mean, besides that giant bear statue, obviously.

Mudhoney 90's grunge 420 style!

In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.

Paer is an instrumental duo that blends rock and electronic music with a healthy dose of improvisation.

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik (kz)

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
Janet Feder - Songs with Words (hb)
Fox Street All Stars - Tough Talk (kz)

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Always push yourself and the art form forward.
Make life easier for the sound guys.  Their job is tough and they'll make you sound better if you're supportive of what they're doing.

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
Porlolo, Flashbulb Fires, Driftin' Suns

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Soft, strong, thoroughly absorbent.

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
Lake Street Drive at the Hornet in 2011

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Drink lots of water.

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
Thai Monkey Club

Who is your all time favorite Colorado band?
That's a tough question.  Warlock Pinchers, Cowhause, Hate Camels, the list goes on... Can't eat just one.

You're working the counter at Twist & Shout, and a customer is interested in expanding his music collection.  What three albums would you recommend?
Knowing their taste would narrow this down a lot, but...
Stereolab - Dots and Loops
Frank Zappa - Roxy and Elsewhere
Igor Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring

Where/ When are you playing for the UMS?
We will be playing on Friday June 19th at Gary Lee's Motor Club and Grub, 6pm.  We're also doing a Lyric House Publishing showcase at The Hornet on June 21st at 3pm.  




In twenty-five words or less, describe what somebody who has never heard of your band might expect from your performance at UMS this year.
Powerful vocals, percussive and dynamic instrumentation, and heartfelt melodies and lyrics.  

What was the first music you remember using your own money to buy?

What has been your favorite album of 2013 so far?
Local Native's Hummingbird

Do you have any advice for new bands?
Don't be a jerk.  

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
I'm sure I'll make some sort of schedule for myself when it gets closer... I'm excited to see Stephanie Dorman, Two Tone Wolfpack, and SHEL among a ton of other artists.  The Epilogues were a lot of fun to watch last year, so I'm looking forward to seeing them play again.  

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Loud, Sweaty, Joyous 

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
In general, the environment itself is my favorite part of UMS... walking down the street to discover new bands, running into friends, or playing a show to see people wandering in from out side-- it all encompasses a feeling of nostalgia I'll carry with me for years to come, I'm sure.  

Any tips you'd like to give the novices for making the UMS experience even better?
Wear comfortable shoes 

Is there any place you're looking forward to eating during UMS?
Do food trucks count as a place?

The beauty of the UMS is getting out of your comfort zone and listening to new bands. Colorado is saturated with great music, so come with an open mind and don't forget that we hit the stage both Friday at 6 and Sunday at 3 :)

Green Day's Dookie - probably 5 years after it came out

James Blake - Overgrown

Do you have any advice for new bands?
no, because we are a new band 

Have you planned out who you want to see at UMS this year? Who are some of your highlights?
excited to see Broken Spirits and Science Partner but they are at the same damn time! Weathermaps, Pink Hawks, Princess Music, Cults, Hockey, The Fresh and Only's, random stuff we pass by and have never heard before. 

If you've been to UMS before, what three words would you use to describe it?
Finger-Lickin'-Good 

What has been your most memorable experience at UMS to date?
playing our first show as a band at last year's festival
