Twist and Shout has asked some bands performing at the UMS to answer a few questions for us- check out these bands July21st-July24 at the UMS. (LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!)

How long has your band been together?
coming up on 2 years.
What was your band's first live show/ performance?
As a full band we played a 3 song set at The Bluebird Theater for Nathaniel Rateliff's Christmas Show in 2009. It was perfect, because I think we only had 4 songs under our belt at the time...and it was an g'damn amazing show!
Do you have any (quick) advice for new bands?
Try to play well. But not too well.
Besides your own band- who do you want to see at the UMS?
Broken Spirits, Science Partner, Mr. Anonymous, always Joe Sampson, Bare Bones, Fairchildren, Bad Weather California...and hoping to be blown away by some local act we've never heard of, as is usually the case at the UMS.
Best past UMS experience?
Too many. How about one of the worst? Being offered a pitcher of beer by a fan before a set at the 404, then having the bartender make us pay for it. You owe us a pitcher this year sketchy dude.
Do you have any tips for festival goers?
I heard pants are optional this year. Nice way to stay cool and make new friends.
If you were behind the counter at Twist and Shout, what three albums would you recommend to our customers?
Delaney Davidson's 'Self-Decapitaion', anything by Charles Mingus, and The Muppet Movie Soundtrack.

How long has your band been together?
i've been writing songs since highschool.
What was your band's first live show/ performance?
my first solo performance was at the College i went to in PA, i bit off more than i could chew!
What was the first album you purchased?
the first good album i bought was Wilco's 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot'
Do you have any (quick) advice for new bands?
write a lot of songs, play a lot of shows, and be patient.
Besides your own band- who do you want to see at the UMS?
Dan Craig, Jessica Sonner, Glowing House, Archeology, and many more.
Best past UMS experience?
the churchill show last summer was a blast.
Do you have any tips for festival goers?
see as many shows as possible.

Who is your all time favorite Denver band?
i have a lot of favorites, my favorite songwriters are Dan Craig and Gregory Alan Isakov, but there are a lot of great bands.
If you were behind the counter at Twist and Shout, what three albums would you recommend to our customers?
-Paul Simon 'still crazy after all these years'
-Fleetwood Mac 'rumours'
-Counting Crows 'recovering the satellites'

i have gone to several of these, but always wake up a little foggy and cant remember much

Doug Sahm - Groovers Paradise //// Fresh & Only's - Secret Walls //// anything on Mississippi Records ( in the new blues vinyl )

Three Kings @ 10pm on Thursday, part of the Till Stage Extravaganza.

Sure enough, i hope so. I mean, I wish they were sold out.
How long has your band been together?
Porlolo has been playing since 2004 with lots of different people involved.
What was your band's first live show/ performance?
November 2004, at the Climax Lounge. I was in a band then called A Dog, Paloma, and that band was actually the one scheduled to play but had to cancel last minute. I showed up in their place, much to the surprise of the sound guy. Nobody was hurt. Nobody important cried.
What was the first album you purchased?
Probably cliche, but Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Do you have any (quick) advice for new bands?
Say it, don't spray it. I mean, it hurts when you talk about your band like that.
Besides your own band- who do you want to see at the UMS?
I am currently stalking Land Lines. Really, I've been to all but a couple of their shows and I'm not about to stop. I don't even know if anybody else is playing all weekend, I've only got eyes for Land Lines.
Best past UMS experience?
Standing on a table at the Irish Rover, watching Bad Weather California. It was pure joy. Maybe I had a contact high. Joy.
Do you have any tips for festival goers?
Those shorts are way too short.
What's the best food people can find on Broadway during the festival?
PBR.
Who is your all time favorite Denver band?
If you've been paying attention, Land Lines.
If you were behind the counter at Twist and Shout, what three albums would you recommend to our customers?
That's too hard, everybody is so different. But three most influential albums in my life: Cap'n Jazz Analphabetaplothog, R.E.M Green, and Palace Brothers Days in the Wake.
